Tots to Teens: All-natural soaps sure to be a hit with kids

Encourage little ones to wash their hands before dinner with this fun dino soap from jannibars.com.

It’s one of a range of soaps, all handmade by Janni Sjostrand at her home in Kildare.

Aiming to reduce plastic waste, Sjostrand started making the bars with minimal and plastic-free packaging and using all-natural colours, flowers, scents and clays. This bar has a relaxing lavender scent and is perfect for frequent use on hands or in the bath. It costs €7.20.

Inspire explorers

If you plan on taking a road trip around Ireland this year, this book could make a great travel companion for the youngsters in the family. Be An Irish Explorer by Bex Shelford is designed to keep children entertained for hours.

Each page explores a different location, such as Newgrange, Bunratty and the Cliffs of Moher, and activities range from drawing the sights and designing your own postcards to creating your own comics. There are fact files about Saint Patrick, information about each county’s GAA colours and opportunities to learn about old Irish customs and traditions. There is plenty to keep young brains active while on holiday. Be An Irish Explorer is published by www.gillbooks.ie and is available from €9.99.

Cocomelon in Bandon

Parents of toddlers are sure to know Cocomelon, a cartoon that has proven to be a huge hit with this age group.

Its main character, JJ, is coming to the Riverside Shopping Centre in Bandon this Saturday, February 1, and has invited little ones in the local area to meet him. This free ticketed event takes place at intervals between 11am and 4pm and will allow families to meet and greet JJ. All families have to do is book their tickets in advance via www.eventbrite.ie.

Parent-teen relationships

If you’re the parent of a teenager sitting state exams this year, you may be wondering how best to support them through this anxiety-inducing time. Young people can often struggle with regulating their emotions and managing stress in the run-up to exams, and they may look to you for practical strategies to help.

Psychotherapist Sandra Gorman has devised an online course to help provide parents with the knowledge and skills they need to do just this.

The course introduces teenage psychology, teaches effective communication skills and provides tips on identifying anxiety, building resilience, creating supportive environments and teaching better study techniques, all while encouraging better parent-teen relationships. It’s available to download from exa.mn/Exam-Support and costs €37.

Perfect for a baby shower

Fiadh and Finn is Casey’s online business. It sells her original prints and gift box sets, designed for children and inspired by the animals, birds, and plants of the Irish countryside. The Welcome Baby Gift Box costs €80 and comes wrapped in eco-friendly Fiadh and Finn paper.
