Carlow have appointed Naas manager Joe Murphy to replace Shane Curran ahead of Sunday’s Leinster SFC preliminary round game against Meath in Navan.

A native of Carlow, Murphy has led Naas to the last three Kildare senior football titles. The Éire Óg man has joined on an interim basis for the championship, although there are suggestions it may be on a more permanent arrangement in the future. It also appears he has left his position in Naas.

In a statement on Monday night, Carlow GAA said captain Mikey Bambrick and the players welcomed Murphy’s appointment.

Former Roscommon goalkeeper Curran stepped down last week following Carlow’s final Division 4 game against London.
